The roots of the Internet
Ok, now that I have a blog, I would like to use it to publish some information I gathered about the history of the net.
The first things I found out are the following:
The creation of the Internet was promoted by the Cold War. In 1957, the CCCR launched the Sputnik, thus being the first to send a satellite into the earth's orbit. The consequent feeling of unsecurity in the USA led president Eisenhower to the decision to create the Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), which became the leading instituation in developping new defense technology. Its original focus was on space, ballistic missles and nuclear test monitoring... Very soon the developement of computer technology began to dominate its work. The first net ARPAnet was created because the institution wanted to gai the opportunity of communicating between its base and the sub-contractors...
To sum up, we can see that the actual motivation to create a network of computers was a military one... We will see how it went on till the Internet established.
If there is someone who wants to read a bit about ARPAnet: The wiki-page about it is very useful. A very understandable summary of the history can be found on http://www.internethistory.leidenuniv.nl/
That's all for today... By the way, if someone knows more about the ARPA and specially about the nets that developed in Europe in the late 70s, please blog me :-)

Just wanted to say 'Hi' and good luck on your topic - I'm watching you! ;-)
Hey! I'm quite impressed by the work you've done so far on your blog. My I take a lesson in creating a blog, Mr. Grube? ;)
Happy Easter to you!
Mr. amos, the prophet, I do not think that you need any lesson in blog creating :-) Congratulations to establishing your own blog. I think the student giving the lecture on blogs will show exactly how to install RSS feeds - they're so convenient that I would recommend them to everyone of us.
So see you on Thursday!
I just wanted to say that your presentation on the history of the internet was excelnt. Before that session I did not know anything about the origins of the www.
See you in class!
